I'm with Enel... being able to take care of calls on the phone are the best. Going in in the middle of the night sucks. Going in in the middle of the night, when it could have waited till the morning really really sucks.

But it's part of the job.

Getting a call on a date about a toenail is nothing. Anything that can be handled on the phone is nothing

Getting a call at 2330 that means you will be up until 0400 is what really sucks.

Call is unexplainable unless you have experienced it, 2 times a week for a decade or so.

After reading the title, I thought you were going to introduce a new stability test:
1) Isolate a 30x30cm column
2) Start peeing on the base of said column
a) if column fails within first 10 seconds of peeing, the snow is extremely unstable
b) if column fails within 10-20 seconds, the snow is moderately stable
c) if column fails within 20-30 seconds, the snow is stable
d) if column fails after 30 seconds, you need to cut back on the number of beers you are drinking before a ski tour. But feel free to center punch.

I knew I was right to feel torn in half while enjoying the red dirt and sunshine in StG. As I rode I kept thinking about the great powder shots I was missing out on.

But then, with my recent track record (I blame the splitboarders really), even the low angle slopes are causing yellow column tests. Perhaps its a good thing i was not with you.

Enel: I'd say that overall the climbing is on par with what we have here. Some of ours are longer, but if they are, they're typically not as steep. The biggest difference is loose rock. Most of our steep climbs are dirt rather than rock, so traction isn't as much of a challenge. I was working pretty hard not just to get up the hill, but to keep the bike on the trail and getting traction.
