Dug and I were talking about cross racing the other day. He said “you’re hooked aren’t you.” I responded in the affirmative, but I really don’t know why. All I can come up with is this:
Racing cross is kind of like gay sex. For most people there's no reason in the world why it should be appealing, but for a certain sub-segment of the population, it is—the difficulty of it notwithstanding—and they can't get enough.

so you're saying you're gay.
ReplyDelete(not that there's anything wrong with that.)
There's some overlap between the two sub-segments, but they're not the same. Besides, as a working, married bike racer, I don't have time to maintain yet another relationship.
ReplyDeleteTwo relationships is enough then?
ReplyDeleteDepends on how you define relationship. If I just have relationships with my wife and my bikes (collectively), then I have two. If I have relationships with my wife, each of my children, each of my bikes, and my job, then I have ten. Either way, I don't have time for one more, whether it would be a 10% or a 50% increase from where I am today.
ReplyDeleteIf it is difficult for you, you are doing it wrong. Not the CX, the sex.
